Talk of the Town and Neighborhood Walks resume for 2026 on February 17 and March 17
SPENCER — After launching in 2025, Town staff are planning another year of community engagement opportunities in Spencer. The Talk of the Town and Neighborhood Walk series will once again alternate months, to provide four opportunities for each program between February and November. Talk of the Town is an “a la carte” version of a citizens academy for our community. Citizens academies are educational programs conducted by local governments to create better informed and engaged citizens.
The Town will host Talk of the Town on the third Tuesday in February, April, September, and November at 6:15 p.m. The first program on February 17 will focus on Police and Code Enforcement, and future dates (April 21, September 15, and November 17) will have the topics announced as the date approaches. Potential topics include Fire, Getting Involved in events, Street funding, Recreation, and more.
Neighborhood Walks will take place on March 17, May 19, August 18, and October 20. The concept is simple yet powerful. Neighbors walk alongside Town representatives in a pre-determined location to identify opportunities for improvement and build rapport with one another. The March 17 Neighborhood Walk will be held in partnership with the North Carolina Transportation Museum from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and include a walking tour of the State Historic Site, led by NCTM volunteer Lucas Safrit and museum staff.
