UPDATE 02/03/2026: WINTER WEATHER UPDATE Feb. 1, 2026

Feb 1, 2026

UPDATE FEBRUARY 3, 2026:

SPENCER — Public Works crew members were hard at work around town today, focusing on shady and trouble spots, and ensuring that garbage collection could begin tomorrow. They plan to get through most of the Monday collection route and hope to start on Tuesday’s route if enough carts are out. Once more melting has occurred on Thursday, they will add a second garbage truck to accelerate collection.

Two dump trucks with plows and the backhoe were in snow removal mode today. Our crews were working on town and state-maintained facilities to make improvements wherever needed.

With temperatures forecasted to stay above freezing tonight, we will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow.

Any further updates will be posted to our website, spencernc.gov, as well as on Facebook and Instagram.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2, 2026:

Town Hall and the Spencer Public Library will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, due to hazardous road conditions in the morning.

Public works staff made better progress with plow operations today but will need to continue to focus on snow and ice removal tomorrow. Waste collection will begin on Wednesday and may continue through Saturday. Please leave carts out until they have been collected.

Any further updates will be posted to our website, spencernc.gov, as well as on Facebook and Instagram.

ORIGINAL TEXT FROM FEBRUARY 01, 2026:

Town Hall and the Spencer Public Library will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 2, due to ongoing hazardous road conditions from the snow, ice, and low temperatures. Public works staff made progress on most streets in town today but were unable to start work on avenues as there are more vehicles to work around on those. NCDOT worked on US HWY 29/Salisbury Avenue most of the day.

Waste collection will not run tomorrow, and crews will resume plowing once temperatures allow their efforts to be effective.

Thank you to our public safety and public works staff who serve through these challenging conditions.

Any further updates will be posted to our website, spencernc.gov, as well as on Facebook and Instagram.
