Winterfest Doo Dah Kid’s Parade
The second Saturday of Spencer’s Winterfest festival (December 11, 2021) will feature a unique event that promises to be fun for the entire family – a Christmas parade featuring children (and their parents), and all the children of Spencer are invited to participate.
The parade is open to children 12 years old and younger and their parents. We want you and your child to dress up as your favorite Christmas characters or dress in the true Spirit of Christmas – whatever strikes you or your child’s imagination. Children are allowed to decorate and ride in their wagons, or ride tricycles, bicycles, pedal cars, or battery-operated vehicles. If you so desire, you can design and make your own mini-float or vehicle that can be either pushed, pulled, or pedaled. If you have real small children and would like to push them in decorated strollers, or pull them in wagons, that would be just fine! We just want to have as many enthusiastic and festive people as possible (especially children) to help celebrate Christmas and our Spencer Winterfest event, by helping us put some fun back into Christmas.
The parade route is a short and simple one for the benefit of the smaller children. Participants are asked to park near the intersection of South Yadkin Avenue and Fifth Street, and to gather on foot inside the blocked-off area on Fifth Street just south of the intersection with South Yadkin Avenue (right beside the new town hall) by 4:30 pm. Once everyone has assembled, the parade will begin there at 5:00 p.m., and travel north along Yadkin Avenue to Fourth Street, turn right onto Fourth Street, proceed past the building on the right (which will become the new North Carolina Museum of Dolls, Toys, and Miniatures, turn right into the entrance of the old Park Plaza parking lot, and travel to the Winterfest stage where the parade will end. (In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be cancelled.)
This is the first time that we have attempted to do something like this for the children of our community during Christmas. Hopefully, with enough participation, we can turn this into an annual family (and Spencer) tradition. If you (or members of your family) would like to participate, please contact Sam Morgan at smorgan@townofspencer.com by December 9, 2021. On behalf of the Town of Spencer and the Spencer Winterfest committee, thank you for your consideration in participating, and we hope you and yours have a very, Merry Christmas
