City Nature Challenge

Down for a challenge??  Rowan County communities are once again joining the City Nature Challenge (CNC) which motivates people around the World to find and document wildlife in and around their cities, using biodiversity recording apps and platforms like iNaturalist.

This is an annual 4-day global urban bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly-competition to see not only what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal, but also which city can gather the most observations of nature, find the most species, & engage the most people in the event. Last year’s event had over 1.2 million observations of nature in the four days of the challenge.

The 2022 City Nature Challenge (April 29th– May 2nd) is gearing up to be the biggest one yet! Several training sessions are planned at local parks on Saturdays in March and April, so you can learn how to use the iNaturalist app, meet new people, and participate in the challenge. Just bring your phone or a camera.
