SPENCER — 2024 National Night Out in the Town of Spencer will take place Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work.

Whosoever Will Let Them Come Ministries will provide free hot dogs and fixings. Other highlights include an impaired driving simulator, emergency vehicle displays, booths featuring child safety information, safe medication disposal, and much more.

The Town is hosting this event with support from Cheerwine, Food Lion, Civic Federal Credit Union, and F&M Bank. Additional community partners involved with the event include the Spencer Moose Lodge, North Carolina Transportation Museum, New Hope Baptist Church, The Terrie Hess Children’s Advocacy Center, Communities in Schools, Spencer Fire and Public Works Departments, BrightView Health, and Novant Health.

This year, National Night Out will kick off with a groundbreaking ceremony for Spencer’s Town Park construction project. Community stakeholders favored creating a downtown civic park in the 2014 and updated 2022 Parks and Recreation Comprehensive Plans. The project will return a portion of the shopping center parking lot to what it once was: public green space. Click here for more information.

During National Night Out, the Spencer Police Department will collect supplies to support our friends in the western part of the state. On Thursday, they will send four vehicles to the mountains with the collected items. More information can be found on their Facebook page.
